Dr. Jonathan Fisher is Fifth Gait Technologies, Inc.’s Chief Scientist. Dr. Fisher joined Fifth Gait Technologies to launch the development of a globally recognized space radiation environment and effects group as well as nationally recognized shock physics team. Our advanced technology teams have expanded and include the following modeling and simulation tools: the SIRE2 Family of Tools and the XTRRA Toolkit, as well as development and application of hardened optical materials and designs, novel radiation shielding, new radiation test methods, new radiation sources, new facility diagnostics, and test sample diagnostics as well as being the first outside user at the National Ignition Facility in 2009 (see page 18-20 of LLNL Science and Technology Review).
Dr. Fisher’s career has been dedicated to space and radiation-hardened technology design, verification, and testing. He led the development of multiple community-standard modeling and simulation tools; radiation test methods, diagnostics, and experiment platforms; and radiation test and requirements standards in support of multiple DoD organizations. He led the joint DoD/DOE team on the design, modeling/simulation, and execution for the first outside user experiment at the National Ignition Facility (NIF). He led test teams that have performed more than 334 cold X-ray shots at NIF, Double Eagle, OMEGA, and Z. He authored or co-authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, more than 70 Hardened Electronics and Radiation Technology (HEART) Conference presentations as well as winning two best paper awards for work presented at the 1999 and 2010 HEART conferences.
Dr. Fisher is an Executive Board member of for the American Commercial Space Weather Association (ACSWA, 2024-present). He was the Chair, Past Chair, and Member for the Hardened Electronics and Radiation Technology (HEART) Society (2004-2024) and Executive Committee Member for Military Sensor Symposia: Materials Group (2007-2016). He is a senior member of IEEE-Nuclear and Plasma Science Society, a member of the American Physical Society, and an active member of the HEART Society. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Physics from Alabama A&M University, and both a Master of Science in Physics and a Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics from Eastern Kentucky University.
Dr. Fisher remains very active in research and development in his fields of expertise as well as mentoring a team of scientist and engineers to be our next generation of recognized subject matter experts. Prior to his work at Fifth Gait, Dr. Fisher has served as the director and principal investigator (PI) at GH Systems, a scientist and principal investigator at Mission Research Corporation, an Associate Fellow of the Technical Staff at Nichols Research Corporation, and a NASA Space Grant Fellow during his doctoral studies.
Our team is composed of renowned subject matter experts and the next generation of scientists, engineers, and analysts. We believe that our unicorns’ ‘fifth gait’ is the missing piece in your system’s survivability.
